Patches of Carex canescens are separated by a narrow zone of Calamagrostis canadensis along the stream. Other patches away from stream include Carex folliculata and seepage slopes with shrubs and scattered spruce.;Plot is about 10 meters from small watered creek which drains a huge herbaceous wetland. The plot is located near the downstream end of the opening. The community is repeated in same position across creek. Herbaceous community with Carex canescens over Cranberries, and mosses. Very small hummocks, almost flat ground with the appearance of a lawn.
Representativeness
Small patch of Carex canescens over Sphagnum. It has very even species distribution. This is a rare community in West Virginia. The only other place we have seen it thus far is at Big Run Bog.
